USA. Each year Argonne offers these special postdoctoral fellowships to be awarded internationally on an annual basis to outstanding doctoral scientists and engineers who are at early points in promising careers. The fellowships are named after scientific and technical luminaries who have been associated with the laboratory, its predecessors and the University of Chicago since the 1940s.
Fellowship recipients will be assigned according to his or her scientific or technical discipline.
2009 Argonne Named Fellowships
Candidates for the Argonne National Laboratory Named Fellowships must display superb ability in scientific or engineering research and must show definite promise of becoming outstanding leaders in the research they pursue.
Fellowships are awarded for a one-year term, with possible renewal up to three years. The 2009 Fellowship carries a stipend of $72,000 minimum per annum with an additional allocation of up to $20,000 per year for research support and travel. The Fellows, who will be competitively selected by a special fellowship committee, are given the freedom of associating with Argonne scientists in a research area of common interest.

The priority deadline is June 2, 2008 for students wishing to study at Cambridge University beginning in 2009-10. University faculty and staff who are familiar with the Gates Cambridge Scholarship will review materials received by this date, while only the Office of Scholarships for International Study will review materials submitted after this date. In either case, we will provide feedback on your application and are willing to work with you through the summer on subsequent revisions.

Unlike other prestigious scholarship schemas, the Gates Cambridge Scholarship does not formally include a university endorsement process. An applicant may choose to independently submit application materials to Cambridge and the Gates Scholarship. However, if you are interested in obtaining feedback on your Gates Cambridge scholarship application from a campus committee, then you need to submit materials by the August 26 noon deadline. University faculty and staff who are familiar with the Gates Cambridge Scholarship will review materials received by this date and will conduct an interview. If materials are submitted after August 26, only the Office of Scholarships for International Study will review the materials and you will not receive a chance to interview with the committee at that time.

For those pursuing graduate study, Gates Cambridge scholarship applications are a part of the general Cambridge application. The applicant is responsible for mailing his/her application to Cambridge (including all original transcripts in sealed envelopes, a passport-size photo, and three recommendations in appropriately marked, signed, sealed envelopes). For those pursuing undergraduate admission, you first must complete a Cambridge application and gain admission to a particular college. Once you are admitted to a college as an undergraduate, the college will send you a supplemental application form for the Gates scholarship. The applicant is responsible for completing the supplemental application to Cambridge and ensuring that these materials are received by the deadline. The Office of Scholarships for International Study would appreciate a copy of all materials prior to submission.
The Final Stages:
Shortlisted candidates will be called for a national interview held in Annapolis in January or February 2009. The Office of Scholarships for International Study will coordinate mock interviews for those students called to an interview. The final selection is generally publicly announced within a week of the Gates Cambridge interview.

Review general tips and view sample application materials
The Gates reviewers will review your entire Cambridge application, so do not repeat yourself in the materials. Write “N/A” throughout the application for items that are not applicable. The GRE is rarely required for admission to Cambridge, but some courses, such as religious studies and economics may require it — look at your individual Department.
International students who have a Green Card should apply through the U.S. If a student is in the U.S. only for education, then they should apply through their home country. In that case, the international student must also apply for an ORS award.
Personal Statement: The scholarship is not for ’rounding out’ education. Solid applications demonstrate that a student plans to contribute to, and not just receive from, Cambridge. A Gates Scholar will change the world by good research, analysis, and proposing solutions. The Foundation desires students who feel the need and have the abilities to contribute creative solutions to problems in all areas — not just academics. Student must be extremely self-motivated, be intellectually curious, and know they have much to learn. An applicant should show that Cambridge is the best place to pursue their studies. The Gates should be more of an incentive to achieve than a reward for past accomplishments.
Recommendation Letters: The personal reference should know something about the candidate’s service or leadership activities, but not be solely a family friend in most cases. However, it is not necessary that this letter be academic.

Thesis fellowship for 3 years financed by the French ministry of research in Toulouse, France: EEG Neurofeedback to control mind wandering
The capacity to concentrate for long period of times is critical both for students and some specific position (air traffic controller, monitor security guard, child care teacher or even Paris taxi driver). Failure to do so can result in life-threatening accident. Monks of various traditions, practicing concentrative meditation, excel at developing a one point focus attention. Over the 3-year course of this project, we intend to 1) record the brain activity of monks in meditation using EEG. 2) train normal non-meditative subjects to produce the same brain rhythms as the monk do. 3) test the concentrative capacities of these subjects before and after training. The institution hosting the project is the University of Toulouse III and the CNRS laboratory CERCO. The CERCO (Center for Brain and Cognition Research) is an internationally recognized laboratory of 18 professional independent CNRS researchers. In 2006 4-year evaluation, this laboratory was ranked first in Neuroscience in France. It is well known for its multidisciplinary approach to cognitive neuroscience with experiments on mice, monkeys and humans, and a wide range of imaging methodologies including modeling.
The ideal candidate will have:
- a master degree or equivalent in the cognitive or computational domain (no constraint in terms of nationality)
- an interest for studying the brain and altered states of consciousness such as those induced by neurofeedback or meditation
- a training in mathematics, signal processing and/or computer science
- fluency in English. Working knowledge in French is preferred.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) - Japan Scholarship Programme (JSP) was established in April 1988 with funding from the Government of Japan. It is intended to provide an opportunity to fully qualified citizens of ADB developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related areas to attend academic institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. ADB-JSP enrolls about 300 students annually in 20 academic institutions located in 10 countries within the region.
Asian Institute of Management is one of institutions participating in this ADB-JSP scholarship program.

Scholarship Description
The ADB-JSP provides full scholarships for one to two years.

* Proficiency in oral and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies.

* Staff of participating academic institutions are not eligible for the Scholarship.
* Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of ADB, consultants, and relatives of the aforementioned are not eligible for the Scholarship.
* Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of the other international organizations are not eligible for the Scholarship.
* Applicants living or working in a country other than his/her home country are not eligible for the Scholarship.
Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.
